Tanya McKenna

Tanya is a music therapist with 20 years of experience in a broad range of settings, including early intervention, disability, special education, autism, paediatric cancer, palliative care and aged care.  Tanya has a passion for working with children with neurological disabilities and their families. Tanya worked at Arts Centre Melbourne for over 11 years where she established the Accessible Music Program, a unique music therapy program for children with disability and their families, as well as school and community groups. This program incorporated technology to maximise music creation for children with disabilities.

Since 2019 she has been working at Challenge supporting children with cancer and their families. Tanya has presented at national and international conferences, including the World Congress of Music Therapy in Japan. In 2020 she was invited to lecture music therapy master’s students at The University of Melbourne regarding her expertise and first-hand experience in working with Telehealth methods within clinical work during Covid-19. Tanya is also a violinist and an instrumental music teacher and has taught music in various schools throughout Melbourne.
